My Snowboarding Hotel

Jasmine Stone asked:

I always loved snowboarding for as long as I can remember. I love the way that snow boarding is a sport that is filled with excitement and personality. I also loved the way that snow boarding was seen as a kind of extreme sport. It made me feel almost proud of myself that I was associated with this status. When I firstly hit the slopes and tried snowboarding it was actually a very new sport at the time, and had not even nearly been in the Olympics.

However, as the trend increased the slopes started to change its ratio of skiing to snowboarding. That is why I wanted to start a business that could benefit from this; I decided on starting a hotel in France that was actually targeting the snowboarders rather than the skiers. You see, the snow boarder and the skier are two very different kind of holiday maker. A snow boarder is more likely to be interested in having a great time, and socialising with younger people, whilst a skier may be away as part of a family vacation.

However, I realised that my business was going to be a risky venture because at the same time as I started it, I was scared that snowboarding might not take off in the way that it has. I mean - did you know that know 22% of winter sports competitors are snowboarders? That is an amazing statistic and one that really indicates the kind of thing that I am talking about. Snow boarding is a massive sport, and I actually do not think there has been any other sport in the history of the world that has seen such success in such a short period of time.

I should say the success of my hotel has been enormous, because I have been warm and comforting to the snowboarders, showing knowledge on the slopes and snowboarding in general. I am able to tell them what I would do, and give them some hot tips that have been passed on to me from hundreds and hundreds of snow boarders through my hotel.

One of the things that I love the most is the way that everyone is always having a good time, and that can reflect on my mood. When everyone in the hotel is enjoying themselves and having a good time, it is easier for me to sit back and have a good time as well. It really is that simple.

I am always asked by the snowboarders if I go on the slopes myself, and I always have to say no, almost appearing like I am a kind of half-interested snowboarder. I almost feel my head dropping as I say it. However, the reason for this is that nowadays, I honestly very rarely have any spare time, and it is the sad part of having my own business. My wife always offers to cover, but when she does I always see it as a great opportunity to go down the bank, or do something like catch up with the paper work.

When I think about how busy I am I always just stop and think about how lucky I am to have a successful business, and a comfortable living - however my passion for snowboarding that gave me the kick start to get the business underway has now gone.

Snowboarding - A Way Of Life

January 12th, 2010
snowboard tips
Many people ask me from time to time why I choose snowboarding as the sport that I wanted to do. Why I choose to work so hard at it, and why I managed to achieve a degree of success in doing so. The answer is simple, and it is the reason why many people do well at different sports. The answer is desire and love for the sport and that is what I had in abundance for snowboarding, before my accident.

When it came to choosing a sport, I thought long and hard when I came to a cross-road in my life. What should I do? Should I do snowboarding or skateboarding? This was really hard for me as I loved both sports, but I was having to train for both of them, and therefore wasn’t dedicating enough time to either. That is why when it came down to it, I decided that skateboarding was only going to be a hobby and that snowboarding was what I wanted to do with my life. The reasons that I preferred snowboarding were not clear cut, and to say I had anything less than love for skateboarding is also not true. But I think I loved the way that snowboarding was a whole different world. Do you know what I mean? When you choose to go skateboarding you can just jump out of bed, and skateboard down to the shop, Ollie over a step and grind down a pole. Is that fun? Yes, of course it is. But when it comes to snowboarding you are entering a completely alien environment. Let me explain. When you live in Atlanta you hardly get snow every day of the week, nor do you get hills and slaloms caked in it! That is why, whether I am boarding on snow or synthetic snow the feeling is the same. It is like, boy I am on snow!

When I choose snowboarding there was also another reason that really helped to make my mind up for me, and that was my friends! My friends who done skateboarding were not as close friends as my friends that done snowboarding and as you can imagine this had an impact. The thought of getting to spend more time with Collin, Justin and the lads was just to much to miss out on! We had such a good laugh, and had so much in common. We would always feel the same about snowboarding, and we were able to really help each other out on issues. When we noticed a flaw in each others technique we would always point it out to each other so that we could all improve together. This worked great, and was one of the reasons that I chose snowboarding over skateboarding when it came down to it!

Now I suppose I should tell you the sad part - the reason why I am no longer able to pursue a career in either, snowboarding or skateboarding. The reason for this is a terrible accident that ruptured my leg muscle, and has resulted in a six month time-out at such a crucial time. You see others will improve in fitness whilst I deteriorate and that is why my sponsor has now dropped me as well. What I am hoping to do is try my best to get back into the sport, because my love for it and my ability at it should be enough to make me come through. Collin and Justin are doing really well, but it is hard for me to spend as much time with them when they are always down the slope or working out. One of my friends called Blair, has also recently won the Junior USA championship, and although I am happy for him it makes me sad to think that I could have been their competing for that trophy. All I can do is try my best, and hopefully luck will fall on my side.

After the initial few tries I determined to get lessons from a local trainer. I have to say that these lessons although intensely costly do build the basic foundation to permit you to grow within the sport. Lessons are critical for those that are first starting or for even those who need to improve their game. After the first couple of personal lessons I determined to search around the net to find tips as these personal lessons were getting to be a bit costly and at that point I would have liked to elevate my skills to indicate of doing some basic tricks.

After a few internet sites provided some good information I discovered a site that claimed they’d provide systems and formulas to augmenting your ability level and learning the tricks that the pros use. The founder and owner of the website is a pro tutor in Canada ( Matt Belair ) so I at least felt I might be getting something with some quality to it.

Anyhow, moving on, I need to say that at first I was disappointed. I gave up after using the system for a brief period of time. Rather than fighting to get my money back i decided to truly give it a go. I soon realized that if I needed to gain the information and the skills needed to elevate myself to the next level I really did need to follow the formula and commit myself to the training program. The system is truly amazing if you stick to it and commit yourself. Matt provides really easy techniques to learn all the top tricks.

This is where he provides written and oral communication on the trick, having the rider practice on dry land and on snow.

This is truly what deterred me originally, having to physically prepare myself and my body for the tricks. Like I announced above you have got to commit yourself if you actually desire to become a good snowboarder. This physical training is truly a key facet of the overall program.

Matt truly focuses on the mental side of coaching. If you get lessons privately or thru alternative sources there actually isn’t much concentrate on preparing yourself mentally. For those who have become good at anything you know a large part of the talent comes from psychological preparation. The formulas and lessons learned in this program focus a lot on the psychological aspect, which I suspect is what got me so good so speedily.

Again, if you are not willing to follow the coaching and commit yourself I wouldn’t bother looking into this as you should have some dedication. If you do need to improve yourself and learn the tricks and abilities that you see so many folks on the hill have this is the best place by far that I have seen supply the coaching.

Snowboard Tricks 1

snowboard tips
Amy N. asked:

Snowboarding is a winter sport that has seen a remarkable increase in popularity over the years. Learning to snowboard can seem difficult to the novice, but with a little motivation and patience, one will soon discover the fun and excitement of snowboarding down a hill.

If you are a first time snowboarder, you need to be aware of the equipment and clothing required for snowboarding. Equipment you will need include a snowboard, snowboard boots, goggles or sunglasses, helmet, comfortable clothing, gloves, winter hat, sunscreen, and lip balm. You can even purchase snowboard pants and a jacket. Long underwear underneath relaxing pants is preferred choice. A turtleneck or sweatshirt is a good choice. You should also have a cloth to wipe goggles.

Before you purchase a snowboard and boots, rent the equipment to make sure that it is a sport you will be participating in often. When you are walking on the slope, watch out for other people or objects that you might hit with your snowboard.

How well you snowboard depends on how well you learn and use the various snowboard stances. Stances consist of a mix of footing, width of a stance, centering, angles, and the offset.

The following are general basic tips for a snowboard stance:

Positioning: Choose the foot that you will place in the front. This will be the foot that is the easiest to control.

Width of your Stance: The ‘Stance Width’ is the distance between the center of your front and back binding. The width of the stance usually depends on your height. As well, the most comfortable width is typically equal to the width of the snowboard rider’s shoulders.

To help you get the best stance, the following is a height guide for setting one’s width stance:

Height (feet) Width (inch)

Less than 5′1″: 17-18

5′2″ - 5′4″: 18-19

5′5″ - 5′8″: 19-20

5′9″ - 6′0″: 20-21

Greater than 6′: 22-23

Set your Binding Angles: For the novice, a ‘forward stance’ is recommended as the easiest stance. Angles for this type of stance are +20 degrees / +6 degrees. Binding stance angles are the angles that the bindings are mounted in relation to the snowboard.

Set your Stance Offset: ‘Stance Offset’ is the distance between the middle of the bindings and the middle of the snowboard. One has to select their stance offset such as in the middle or set back towards the tail of the snowboard.

Stance Centering: ‘Centering the Stance’ is when the feet are centered across the width of the snowboard. This is achieved by shifting the binding disks.

The above snowboarding tips are met as an introduction to snowboarding. If you are new to the sport, you should enlist the services of a qualified snowboard instructor. A snowboard instructor will teach you such snowboarding techniques as Switching Edges, Gliding, Moving up the Slope, Sideslipping (Heelside), Sideslipping (Toeside), Traversing (Heelside), Traversing (Toeside), Falling Leaf, and Garlands.

With an understanding of the snowboarding basics, it won’t be long before you are soaring down the slopes.
